In this 6 week class, we will explore multiple handbuilding techniques (such as slab work, coil building, and pinch pots) as we learn to handbuild various functional forms. We will practice adding our own personal touches to our work through different surface treatments including texturing, underglazing, and glazing. Join us for the fun, the inspiration, and the community!

Beginner Wheel

Beth Wright

Get your hands in the clay! This Beginner Wheel class explores the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel including centering, opening, pulling, basic shaping, trimming and glazing. You will learn the importance of focusing your whole self on your clay and the wheel to create functional pieces of art. Geared towards those with no wheel experience (or for those who have tried it informally and want to get more comfortable). Basic forms such as bowls and cylinders will be taught. Perfection is not the goal, but an open mind IS, as you learn to use the potter’s wheel step by step, which can be very therapeutic and rewarding as you continue to practice! For ages 16+. The instructor can send you links to purchase your own tool kit (approx. $10-20) or you can use what is available at the studio.

Tuesdays April 4, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 6:30-9

  • The final class (week 8) will be a review and discussion class lasting only 1 ½ hours. All other classes are 2 ½ hours each.

Cost:$360
