Try-it workshops

Our two hour Try-It sessions will give you a taste of working on the potter’s wheel with no strings attached. Designed for those interested in a one night experience, it’s great for date night, girls’ night or if you’re just not ready to commit to a series of classes.

Workshops are offered the First and third Friday of every month 6-8 pm. $55 gets you just the workshop, and if you’d like to keep a piece you make, you can now buy it through the website. If you’re not sure, you will also have the opportunity to buy it in the studio with cash or check for $15. The Clay School cannot accept credit cards in the studio.

"Handbuilding" means you will be constructing a piece NOT on the potter's wheel but on a surface, using certain techniques such as coiling, pinch and/or slab methods.

You can keep what you make for a fee of $15, which covers the cost of staff finishing and shipping the piece to you 2-3 weeks later.
You will also have the opportunity to buy it in the studio with cash or check for $15. The Clay School cannot accept credit cards in the studio.

Kate Bevington

Available Saturdays 2-7

I am a devoted local potter and experienced teacher of many years. My specialty is  throwing a variety of vessels on the wheel, from simple bowls, cups, vases, pie dishes, plates and planters to more complicated forms with lids, handles, or combined parts: sugar bowls, chip & dips, casseroles, etc.  I enjoy working with beginning and intermediate students, as well as more experienced potters who want tips on finessing forms during throwing or trimming, and combining glazes.

Christie goodfellow

Available Mondays 12-5

Ever curious and fascinated with the wheel-throwing process, I have been exploring functional pottery for twenty-plus years. Over the past decade I have made a career crafting dinnerware for restaurants and individuals, and creating home decor items for online sales and retail shops. My teaching areas of interest are focused on wheel-throwing and include technical skill building and problem solving, editing and critiquing form to match function, and developing systems for exploration. If you'd like to sharpen your skills, please get in touch!

Tess Lawlor

Available Fridays 5:00-10:00

Tess has taught pottery classes and given workshops at art centers throughout the Northeast for 35 years. Throughout her career she has taught beginning, intermediate, advanced and large scale wheel throwing techniques along with running an apprenticeship program for those interested in becoming professional potters. Her focus is on large scale pieces as well as functional pottery and she delights in the process as much as the finished work, bringing an exacting eye to what is needed to go from average to the extraordinary. Tess maintains her pottery studio in Fall Creek.
